6/12/2023 0 Comments EarthBound by Ken BaumannEarthBound was not well received, but is remembered fondly by its fans and sees continued popularity as a downloadable game on modern Nintendo consoles. The connection between the smells and the game was tenuous at best. Baumann describes poorly thought out print ads, such as one proclaiming “This game stinks” and including scratch and sniff stickers of mustard, bananas, and. As he follows Ness on his quest, Baumann discusses some of the things that added to and possibly subtracted from the success of the game in America. Baumann guides the reader through a light summary of the game from the moment Ness, the protagonist, is talked into checking out a fallen meteor by a fellow kid from the neighbourhood and has psychic powers awakened within him. Unfortunately, I didn’t learn as much as I had hoped about how the game was made, how people felt about it, long hidden secrets, or why it has such a legacy.

6/12/2023 0 Comments Courbet by Segolene Le MenWhile CourbetGÇÖs brand of realism bears a family resemblance to those of his contemporaries Daumier and Millet, its scope is much broader: his masterworks range from the Burial at Ornans (1850), a heroically scaled depiction of a villager's funeral, to the very different Origin of the World (1866), a detailed close-up of the female anatomy, and he also painted many straight landscapes, portraits, and stilllifes. His paint handling was correspondingly direct: disdaining equally the idealized contours and cool tones of the neoclassicists and the expressive line of the romantics, he laid on his colors almost roughly, often with a palette knife instead of a brush. Rejecting the historical and literary subjects of the prevailing styles as too remote from actual experience, Courbet instead depicted scenes of everyday life, particularly among the peasants and the working class, with a naturalism then considered shocking. Courbet, a dynamic and boundlessly self-confident man, proud of his rural origins and guided by his strong Republican beliefs, quickly established a third way. When Gustave Courbet (1819-1877) began his career in the late 1840s, French painting was dominated by two competing styles: neoclassicism, exemplified by Ingres, and romanticism, exemplified by Delacroix. 6/12/2023 0 Comments Scions josephine angelini"This delightful (delicious!) 90's throwback will reunite fans of the Starcrossed series with some of their favorite Scions and pave the way for new readers to discover the fantastic world that launched Angelini onto the literary scene with her popular debut. Berkeley did this by suggesting that "Ideas can only resemble Ideas" – the mental ideas that we possess can only resemble other ideas (not material objects) and thus the external world consists not of physical form, but rather of ideas. Whilst, like all the Empiricist philosophers, both Locke and Berkeley agreed that we are having experiences, regardless of whether material objects exist, Berkeley sought to prove that the outside world (the world which causes the ideas one has within one's mind) is also composed solely of ideas. This book largely seeks to refute the claims made by Berkeley's contemporary John Locke about the nature of human perception. A Treatise Concerning the Principles of Human Knowledge (commonly called Treatise) is a 1710 work, in English, by Irish Empiricist philosopher George Berkeley. 6/10/2023 0 Comments Pie by sarah weeks reading levelDonnica is not pleased and fears that Oggie will totally ruin her party, especially since her father has hired Bumbles the juggling bear instead of the local hot high school band, Cheddar Jam. In Oggie Cooder, Party Animal, Donnica's mother makes her invite Oggie to her pool party because Oggie's mother is helpful and is an influential part of the garden club that Ms. She doesn't have Oggie's talents, though, and he is victorious, even though he chooses not to go on to the next level. That is, until neighbor Donnica Perfecto talks him into teaching her to charve, so she upstages him. He doesn't win a trip to Florida for naming a bagel (Raisin' the Roof is so much better than Sunshine!), but he thinks he might be able to win the local version of Hidden Talents by charving a selection of states. It's a tough business, especially when a pipe breaks and is going to set them back $10,000, so Oggie is always on the lookout for contests he can enter. Oggie lives with his parents, who run a local resale shop and get most of Oggie's wacky clothes as well as household furnishings from their attempts to stock the store at garage sales. Originally published as Oggie Cooder (2000) and Oggie Cooder, Party Animal (2009), Cheese capitalizes on Oggie's main hobby (and stress reliever) of charving- chewing and carving cheese into different shapes- and gives the book a new cover reminscent of the author's more recent works, Pie and Honey. |
